What is NABET?
National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) is a constituent Board of the Quality Council of India. It offers an accreditation program for Quality School Governance in the country through a framework for effective management and delivery of a holistic education program aimed at the overall development of students.
Accreditation Standard for Quality School Governance
The Accreditation Standard for Quality School Governance covers all aspects of school functioning and has following three board domains:
- School Governance
- Education and Support Processes
- Performance Measurement and Improvement
Each domain contains a set of standards that further comprise performance indicators.
The Accreditation Standard requires shifting from teacher-centered pedagogy to child-centered pedagogy emphasizing experiential learning and further emphasizing how the school plans to ensure that each student gets to benefit from what is being offered in school respecting individual differences, how the school plans for holistic development of child giving importance to both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects.
Akshara NABET Accreditation Journey
Akshara management is committed to providing quality education and felt the need to have its process assessed by an external body. After evaluation of various education related quality frameworks, it was decided to get accredited by NABET.
The accreditation journey started by:
- Making all the staff members go through a Quality Awareness workshop which included awareness of the NABET Accreditation Standard for Quality School Governance
- The Vision and Mission of the school were also reviewed by the entire staff and re-framed keeping in mind the local context and the expectations of the interested parties
The school team thereafter mapped the school processes to the standards laid by QCI and submitted the documents to NABET with an application for assessment. NABET typically does a Readiness Assessment followed by a Final Assessment, but looking at the maturity of our processes, the Readiness Assessment was skipped and a physical Final Assessment was conducted in August 2022. NABET Assessors met all the process owners and checked the process against the standards. Based on their compliance report NABET Accreditation was granted in October 2022.
This however is the start of our quality journey and the focus would now be on continuous performance improvement.
