The choice of school for your child is a very important decision which has a long term implication in terms of your child's development and success in life. We would be happy to answer questions about how Akshara school environment enables holistic development of students, our teaching approach, choice of the Board for affiliation, facilities and schooling pattern. Q. What are the school timings?

A. The School timings are as follows:

Pre-primary (Nursery to Sr. K.G.)
» Day School (09:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
» Day Boarding (09:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

Primary Middle & Secondary (Class I to X)
» Day School (8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.)
» Day Boarding (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
» Saturday (1st, 3rd & 5th) - (9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)(for IX & X only)

Senior Secondary (Class XI-XII)
» Monday to Friday (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) (till 3:00 on days of practicals)
» Saturday (1st, 3rd & 5th) - (9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

Q. Is Day Boarding Schooling option compulsory?

A. The School offers "Day School" and "Day Boarding" schooling options to its students till Class X. "Day Boarding" is not compulsory and parents can choose from either.

Q. Is the school co-educational?

A. Yes. The school admits boys and girls from Nursery to Class XII.

Q. What is the school academic curriculum?

A. The school academic curriculum is based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) defined by NCERT, Delhi.

Q. What about the academic performance of the school students?

A. The school students have consistently achieved 100% results in the Board exams conducted by the CBSE. » » Last year Class X results

Q. What is the teacher/student ratio?

A. The ratio is 1:20. The school is very particular that each student be provided individual care and attention at all times.

Q.How is the teaching faculty selected?

A. Appropriate educational qualifications, relevant experience, demonstration lesson and a rigorous interview process are the selection criteria.

Q. What are the co-curricular activities are offered?

Q. What are the child safety measures adopted by the school?

A. A. The school has implemented measures like CCTV, soft padded play area, separate bus boarding lane, SMS alerts to parents, infirmary and floor wise Emergency response team (ERT) for the safety of its students.

Q. Does the school have adequate medical facilities?

A. A. The school has a full time lady doctor for expert medical care and advice. Beside school also has tie up with Aditay Birla Hospital (ABH). Termwise medical ckeck up is carried out for all students by the team of doctors from ABH.

Q. What are the Annual School Charges? What does it include?

A. The Annual School Charges till the Secondary Level include the following:


Academics including Remedial Help, Advance Learning classes, Worksheets, Project Work and Examinations

Cocurricular and Extra-curricular activities

Labs (Maths, Social Studies, ICT, Physics, Chemistry, Biology)

Sports Facility (skating, basketball, cricket, football, yoga, aerobics and martial arts)

Hobby classes (Dance: Bharat Natyam, Kathak ; Music: vocal, instrumental; Origami, Drawing; Science experiments)

Festival Celebrations, Special days, Annual Concert (except costume hiring), Annual Exhibition, Annual Sports Meet and Educational Trip.

Competitive Examination (Minimum Two) Additional charges to be paid if participating for more than two competitive exams.

Academic and behavioral counseling, Infirmary facility.

The Annual School charges vary based on the Schooling option and are payable in two installments. Parents are requested to contact the School Office for details of the same. We recommend that you make time to visit the school and see our state of the art infrastructure, playgrounds etc. Come and experience the care we have taken to create an environment conducive for experiential learning.

Q. Which areas are covered by School Transport?

A. The school has an extensive transport coverage. Parents can refer to School Transport document to get an idea of the areas serviced by the current bus routes.The routes get re-planned at the start of academic session to optimize travel time for the students.
The Bus charges are not included in the Annual School Charges. They are decided at the start of the academic session and are payable in two installments.

Q. What is the age requirement for admission? Is any relaxations possible?

A.The age criteria for admission to various classes is as below (Age is considered as on 1st June of the academic year)

Akshara has defined the age criteria at pre-primary and Class 1 keeping the age-readiness of children in mind. Age relaxation can be considered mainly for admissions to higher classes by the Principal in exceptional cases.

Q. I am currently overseas. Can the admission process be done online?

A. Akshara facilitates the online admission process for parents who are overseas as follows:

Parent to ask a representative to meet the Admission team to understand the schooling program and purchase the Registration Form from School Office. The cost of the Form is Rs. 500/- and the admission processing fee is Rs. 1000/- (payable at the time of Form submission). If the parent is not able to send a representative, the REGISTRATION FORM can be downloaded from the website and the amount transferred electronically. The physical copy of the Prospectus will be handed over to the parent when they visit the school.

The duly completed Registration Form to be scanned and e-mailed to admissions@akshara.in along with required documents (copy of birth certificate and last academic report of the child)

Provisional admission will be granted with the understanding that the remaining formalities would be completed on arrival in Pune.

The seat will be blocked after payment of the admission fee (non-refundable).

Q. Which Education Board is the school affiliated to? Is it the right choice for my child? How does it compare with other Boards like State and ICSE?

A. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi (CBSE). It is a national education board and follows a syllabus developed by NCERT (National Council for Educational Research and Training). This association ensures
» a well researched curriculum which gets revised based on changing needs of children and society
» good supporting instructional material for the teachers at various levels of the school education
» emphasis on learning by doing, enhances application skill, analytical skill and problem solving skill
» organizes teachers training for new challenges.

CBSE conducts two key entrance exams AIEEE(Engineering) and NEET(Medical) for admission to professional institutions across the country and hence our students will benefit by studying a curriculum which forms the syllabus for these exams.
All other Education Boards are good as well and they vary based on areas of focus (e.g. the State Board include regional content in their syllabus). The final choice is a personal decision of the parent based on factors like transfers (in which case it is better to go for a national board).

Q. What are the subjects offered at the Senior Secondary level? When do Class XI admissions start and what is the admission process?

A. Akshara offers Science Stream at the Senior Secondary level. The students can choose any 5 subjects from the list below with English as compulsory subject:

» English, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Computer Science & Physical Education (Combination list is provided with the registration form)

The academic session will starts from 1st June, soon after the declaration of Class X Board results. Students with good academic record can block a seat earlier by registering for provisional admission as per the admission guidelines.

Q. How are students of Class XII prepared for the school leaving exams?

A. Class XII students are provided all possible assistance by the staff. A Career Counselor also offers advice on career options available to school leaving students.
